Navratri 2026: Nine Nights, Nine Goddesses, and the Astrology Behind Each Day

Each of the nine nights of Navratri is dedicated to a specific form of Durga — and each corresponds to a planet in Vedic astrology. Worshipping the right goddess on the right day multiplies the spiritual and material effects dramatically.

Navratri — 'nine nights' — is one of the most spiritually potent festivals in the Hindu calendar. In 2026, Chaitra Navratri begins on March 29 (coinciding with Saturn's entry into Pisces, making this a particularly significant Navratri). The nine nights celebrate nine forms of the Divine Mother — collectively known as Navadurga — each representing a different aspect of cosmic energy.

What most people do not know is that each night of Navratri corresponds to a specific planet in Vedic astrology, and that worshipping the correct form of Durga on each corresponding day produces planetary benefits alongside spiritual ones.

The Nine Nights and Their Planetary Correspondences

  • Day 1 — Shailputri: Moon. Wear white, offer white flowers. Good for mental peace and emotional healing.
  • Day 2 — Brahmacharini: Mars. Wear red, offer red flowers. Good for removing Mangal Dosha, building courage.
  • Day 3 — Chandraghanta: Venus. Wear royal blue or green, offer fragrance. Good for love, beauty, and comfort.
  • Day 4 — Kushmanda: Sun. Wear orange, offer coconut. Good for health, vitality, and career authority.
  • Day 5 — Skandamata: Mercury. Wear yellow, offer yellow flowers. Good for intelligence, children, and communication.
  • Day 6 — Katyayani: Jupiter. Wear green, offer banana. Good for marriage, knowledge, and dharma.
  • Day 7 — Kalaratri: Saturn. Wear grey or black, offer mustard oil lamp. Good for Sade Sati relief and protection.
  • Day 8 — Mahagauri: Rahu. Wear peacock blue or multi-colour, offer coconut. Good for Rahu Ketu dosha relief.
  • Day 9 — Siddhidatri: Ketu. Wear purple, offer sesame. Good for spiritual liberation and past-life karma.

The Practical Application

If you are going through a difficult Saturn period (Sade Sati, Dhaiya), Day 7 of Navratri is the most powerful single remedy available. Worshipping Kalaratri with a sesame oil lamp, offering mustard oil and sesame, and reciting her mantra consistently provides documented relief from Saturn's pressure that practitioners across traditions have reported for centuries.

Similarly, couples experiencing marriage delays due to Jupiter weakness in their chart will find Day 6 (Katyayani) particularly powerful. The Katyayani Mantra (Om Katyayanai Namah) repeated on this night during Navratri is considered one of the most effective marriage remedies in the Vedic tradition.

Navratri is not just a religious festival — it is a structured nine-day energy window during which planetary remedies work with amplified effect. Use it intentionally.
